When Linda Sparrowe, editor of the Himalayan Institute’s magazine, Yoga International, asked me with high hopes and short notice if I could provided Eggs for her upcoming Courageous Women, Fearless Living Workshop at the Shambala Center in Colorado, my only desire was to find a way to say, “yes.”
Linda and I met in 2009 at a Yoga Journal Conference in San Francisco. At the time she was editing a different publication and requested sample Eggs for review. I’m terrible at following up with things like this, and so nothing more came of her offer… until recently. Cora Wen (whom I met at the same conference) recently reawakened my dormant relationship with Linda by featuring the Eggs in her YI article for Breast Cancer Thrivers & Survivors. The women in Cora’s family have all battled breast cancer so the issue is one close to her heart. Linda and Cora go back a long way.
Courageous Women, Fearless Living is a five-day retreat up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The course provides the guidance and companionship women touched by cancer need on their journey toward healing. Integrating body, mind, and heart, they discover ways to meet all of their experiences directly and courageously—their pain, fear, sorrow, anger, joy, and gratitude. Led by an extraordinary team of experts in the field, this program includes meditation instruction, healing visualization practice, yoga sessions, whole being healthcare, mindful cooking and nutrition tips, small group discussions, art therapy, ritual, sacred dance, and community building.
3ME sent 72 Eggs for use in this workshop and the participants liked them so much, many of them asked to purchase the demos. We happily gave them a sizable discount, and one woman who is on the verge of homelessness was given some Eggs for free.
It’s not easy knowing how and when to give back. Cora Wen and I developed the Yoga Bloom THANK PINK Egg to directly support the Thriving and Surviving community. Furnishing workshops like this one with Eggs is one of the many ways we have planned of sustaining that effort.
If you haven’t already done so, please check out the article Cora wrote on Yoga Internationals’s digital edition. If you want join the fight with us, please contact us about becoming an “Egg Donor.”
Here is a video good for anyone at any time, of a yoga sequence created by Cora Wen entitled, “Supporting Heaven and Earth.”
